The Foothold Group has some very clear objectives and high on that list is increasing local wealth. It recognises that it’s the Private Sector that provides the jobs and commercial sustainability in any community. Working closely with the business sector is therefore fundamental to achieving our objectives.

In the 20 years since The Foothold Group began as a project to offer young people an exciting alternative to unemployment, we have worked with a caseload of over 2,500 potential entrepreneurs and helped more than 1,500 start trading.

Since 1999, The Foothold Group have broadened their target market and portfolio of services to meet needs such as those identified by the Newidiem research which showed Carmarthenshire had a low business start up rate and a high business mortality rate.

Most of Foothold’s Enterprise Development work is achieved by strong partnerships working with other key partners in regeneration including Carmarthenshire Council, Welsh Assembly Government - Department for Economy and Transport & Department for Education Lifelong Learning and Skills, Coleg Sir Gar, Prince’s Business Trust Cymru and the County Chamber of Commerce.
