YOUTH ENTERPRISE
“The Foothold Group organisation was born from the desire to promote and stimulate Youth Enterprise in our community. Youth Enterprise will always remain close to our hearts”
Mike Theodoulou, Executive Chairman,
The Foothold Group
Our Roots in Youth Enterprise
When The Foothold Group was registered as a Youth Enterprise Agency in 1988, it was the first youth agency in the UK. It remains the only one in Wales to this day, despite a youth unemployment level in parts, which exceeds 28%.
Youth Enterprise Activity Today
Although we now offer an extensive portfolio of Enterprise Development Services, Youth Enterprise work remains at the core of what we deliver. Our investment in Youth Enterprise is key to our strategy for improving the economy and wealth of our community.
We devote our creative entrepreneurial skills to help young people become the drivers of enterprise culture. We work closely with partner organisations to put initiatives in place to build up a well-trained and highly motivated workforce for the future.
• Young Enterprise in West Wales
The Foothold Group are the facilitators of Young Enterprise in Carmarthenshire, a programme that works with pupils in schools and colleges and supports them to create and trade a business. Ysgol Tregib from Llandeilo have won the prestigious UK Young Enterprise title twice in the last four years.
• Shell Livewire
Foothold is also the Carmarthenshire Coordinator for Shell Livewire, which helps young people, aged 18-30 to develop their business. One of Footholds clients Helen Mainwaring of “Ac Ati”, won first prize as Welsh New Business of the Year and came third overall in the UK.
• Enterprise in Schools
Currently we are working with the community in some of the most deprived wards of Wales to offer an entrepreneurial experience to Primary School children. Every year we run awareness events and various games for Secondary pupils to offer them an insight into the opportunities of self-employment.
• New Business Start Up’s
As part of our mainstream new business starts work and links with the Prince's Youth Business Trust, we see a large number of young people among our clients. We are able to ensure that youth from more disadvantaged backgrounds are given support and guidance, which often generates new career opportunities.
